Interest Groups

Strength in diversity

The greatest strength of the IWF is the diversity of our membership. With this diversity comes a wide range of interests from hiking to reading to just chatting over morning coffee. For years IWF members have gathered outside the formal monthly meeting to share in a variety of activities and it is often during these smaller group events where members get to know each other better and new friendships are created.

The latest announcements for each interest group can be viewed by selecting an interest group from the menu on the right. Each year, IWF women suggest new ideas for interest groups - recent additions include Kocktailklatsch and Diners Club.

Launch a new interest group

The minimum number of participants needed to start an interest group is just 1, but by posting a message on the on-line forums you will probably find a few others who share your hobby. All it takes is an idea and an e-mail Membership Team and we'll get you started.

Groups at IWF

TTT - Two Tongued Tots

The playgroup is intended for mothers who are bringing up their children in a bi-lingual environment. Programming varies according to the event type, which may include playdates in English, holiday celebrations, informational sessions on topics of interest for all mothers in Bologna, and open discussions with multicultural families.

Runners & Walkers

The Runners and Walkers are active IWF women who meet on Sunday mornings to participate in local non-competitive "camminate." Run distances vary from 3K to 21K and are open to women of all fitness levels who are welcome to walk, jog or run the distance of their choice. At the finish line runners unite for cappuccino together at the nearest bar!

The Ramblers are hiking enthusiasts who organize day treks and weekend backpacking trips, both women-only hikes and family events. The Ramblers group is led by a stellar cast of IWF women ensuring that each outing is a first rate experience!

Professional Network

The Professional Network was founded to address the professional development of IWF membership. Activities are scheduled based on member interest and may include resume and interview workshops, seminars on running a business or networking with local companies and with other women in Europe.

Language XChange

The IWF gathers members interested in improving a language by conversing with native speakers and offering their own language. Contact the group leader who will add your name to the mailing list of interested women to receive notification of next meeting place and time.

Take time to relax over an after-work cocktail with the Kocktailklatsch group. Meeting periodically at fun, relaxed locale in Bologna for an aperitivo on weekday evenings, the Kocktailklatsch events are open to IWF members and their female and male guests.

Job Bank

Job Bank assists IWF members in identifying opportunities for work by soliciting both offers and requests and publishes them on the web. Send offers, requests and feeback to

Film Fans

This group meets every 4-6 weeks to watch a film in the company of other IWF women. Selected films include a selection of both classics and modern favourites.

Diners Club

Diners Club organizes regular dinner outings at new Bologna restaurants. The group has a particular fondness for international cuisine including Japanese, Indian, Greek and other "ethnic" favorites.

Culture Club

You think you know Bologna well? Or do you think it’s all just about towers and tortellini? Either way, join us to discover “la Grande Bellezza” of the city and region we all love, unveiled from unexpected points of view and guided by “insiders”. Activities may include visits to artisan workshops, gardens, palazzi, museums, art galleries, cultural events, festivals and other hidden treasures.

Community Service Volunteers

For those who are interested in serving the local community, the IWF posts service opportunities for our members. Information about IWF group service projects are also posted here.

Coffee Morning

The Coffee Morning group meets weekly and is a drop-by event that was created to give members the chance to have a daytime IWF activity and to catch up with one another between meetings. All IWF women, along with their female friends and children, are welcome to come along.

Book Club

Meets one evening per month in members' homes to discuss a chosen novel. The reading list usually contains a mix of contemporary fiction and classics in English. In the past the book club has invited local authors to speak and contributes a book reviews to Vox@bo.
