This walk followed CAI (Club Alpino Italiano) route 902, which links several parks outside Bologna and ends at Porta San Mamolo at the top of Via D’Azeglio. It’s not too challenging, but it offers a lot of scenic variety, starting alongside the Savena River in San Lazzaro, rising up to some quite high hills with open views over the city and towards San Luca, and then descending along a forested path to arrive at San Michele in Bosco. The elevation gain (dislivello) is about 250 metres and the walking time two-and-a-half hours.
